Share Your Opinion, Is Mel Gibson an Abuser?
Oksana Grigorieva has accused Mel Gibson of domestic abuse. Mel has accused Oksana of extortion and slander. There is an ongoing investigation into the allegations of extortion by Oksana, as of yet there have been no charges of domestic abuse against Mel.
Unless you live under a rock you’ve heard the tapes of Mel raging at Oksana. In case you haven’t, below is a sample of what Mel had to say to Oksana on the tapes. Just a small sample and in my opinion not the worst.
Oksana: "What kind of a man is that? Hitting a woman when she’s holding a child in her hands? Breaking her teeth twice in the face! What kind of man is that?"
Mel: "Oh, you’re all angry now! You know what, you f* cking deserved it!"
Mel: "I'll put you in a f *ckin rose garden you c*nt! You understand that? Because I'm capable of it. You understand that?"
Mel was dropped by the agency that represented him in Hollywood. He is persona non grata amongst most of his fellow actors and actresses but for some reason the average woman defends his actions. I’ve found comments left by women on the internet regarding this story to be frightening. Oksana is called everything from a whore to a gold-digger. Read for yourself what some women have said…
“Absolutely - she's no angel by any means. Stating that Gibson "often flew into jealous rages, talked about suicide and once brandished a gun in front of her" yet this idiot stayed with him and supposedly endangered her daughter by doing so. No other Gibson lovers have complained, and even his ex said he never pulled this crap on her. It's obvious by the taped phone calls that he was losing it, but I can't help but think his rages, and the meticulous way she repeatedly taped him, were staged.”
“Abuse by men or women either one should not be tolerated period, but I truly believe this woman is nothing but a money grubbing gold digger who absolutely black mailed Mel! Her past relationships show her in her true light. Mel may not be all innocent in this, but I bet she has a lot to answer for in all this too.”
“This woman is no victim but is victimizing her children with her greed. Everything about her is fake and a lie and has no respect for anyone or anything and it is a real insult to true domestic violence victims to give this grifter gaming the system any credence.”
“I hope to see JUSTICE soon! Mel cleared, and Oksana charged and spending well deserved time in JAIL for all the grief she has caused. Words can't describe the revulsion I feel for her.”
The majority of the comments I’ve read blame Oksana for Mel’s rage. She was either “pushing his buttons,” or there was no abuse since she didn’t leave him immediately upon being abused. These comments are made by women who are ignorant of what it means to be a victim of domestic abuse and the reaction of an abusive man once he is left.
An abused woman is in more danger once she leaves the relationship. Her leaving is what sends the abuser over the edge and it sounds to me like Mel reacted in a way that is common with anyone who perpetrates domestic abuse.
How exactly will most abusers react when the victim leaves? The abuser belittles, degrades and terrorizes the victim. The abuser will go to any length to attempt to control the victim. There will be elevated verbal, emotional and physical abuse. The abuser will make threats; go into seething rages trying to maintain control and obedience.
Women are exposed to accusations of wrong doing, attempts to intimidate and without fail, the abuser blames the abused for his bad behavior. “If you weren’t this, that or the other thing, I wouldn’t be acting this way.”
Oksana Grigorieva is an example of a woman who has been the victim of domestic abuse. Whatever else she is, she is also Mel Gibson’s victim. Those who criticize the way she has handled the situation do so only because they’ve never been in her situation.
We none know how we would respond until we’ve been put in a position of having to respond. And it is safe to say you should not respond out of ignorance or intolerance because regardless of what most think, the tapes are clear evidence that Mel Gibson is an abusive, intolerant person. I would not want to be on the receiving end of one of his rages.
