Common Law Marriage Defined

Definition:

A legally recognized marriage in some states based on cohabitation alone. If a couple has lived together and represented themselves as a married couple for a determined number of years they are said to be common law husband and wife. If the couple decides to part ways they would be held to the same legal standards as a "married" couple.
