Jurisdiction Defined

By , About.com Guide

Definition:

A court has jurisdiction if it has the legal right to hear your case and issue enforceable orders or judgments. The court with the legal right to hear your case would be the court in the county where you last lived together as husband and wife. If one spouse sets up residency in another state, both states may have jurisdiction.
