A motion is a written request asking the court to grant a temporary ruling. A motion can be filed with the courts by either side to the divorce. Once a motion is filed there will be a special court date scheduled to hear arguments either for or against the motion.
Frequently, motions request temporary orders relating to child support, maintenance of health and life insurance, and temporary custody of minor children. Requests for restraining orders and requests to vacate the marital home are also made by motion.
