Canadian Child Support Enforcement

By , About.com Guide

Canadian Child Support Enforcement Program:

In Canada each province and territory are responsible for child support enforcement. They each have their own child support enforcement program.

To receive help from an enforcement program the parent needing assistance must:

  • Register a child support order with the program in his/her province or territory.

  • Turn over any information pertaining to the other parent’s whereabouts.

If child support is not paid the program has a number of methods they use to collect child support. Some provinces will either deny the other parent a driver’s license or suspend their license if they already have one. They can also garnish wages, attach property and pension plans and deny and take away passports. If you have a need for the program you may want to contact the appropriate office in your province or territory and obtain a registration application.
