Robert A. Simon Ph.D.

Robert A. Simon, Ph.D. is a clinical and forensic psychologist, licensed in the State of California (license number PSY10800). Dr. Simon has been in practice for over 20 years.

He maintains a private practice in San Diego, California and consults throughout California and the United States. From his many years in practice, Dr. Simon has developed an expertise and passion for the issues that impact adults, children and families who are involved in or have been impacted by divorce.

He believes that while divorce is a process that changes lives, it does not have to ruin lives and it does not have to cause the life-long wounds that are all too commonly caused by divorce. As a forensic psychologist, Dr. Simon is frequently called upon to assist other professionals and the Courts to understand the best interests and needs of children in families in the midst of divorce.

He is also a respected child custody evaluator and mediator as well as consultant and reviewer of forensic work done by other psychologists. Above all, Dr. Simon is a passionate advocate for conflict resolution and problem solving without the need for destruction and divisiveness.

Dr. Simon is a founding member of the San Diego Family Law Council for Children and a member of the Board of Directors of the Collaborative Family Law Group of San Diego. He is also a qualified Collaborative trainer, teaching other professionals the skills of collaborative practice.

Dr. Simon services as the senior child custody mediator at the National Conflict Resolution Center in San Diego, CA. A sought after lecturer and teacher, Dr. Simon has presented to the Family Law Section of the San Diego County Bar Association, Family Court Services of the Superior Court – San Diego and has presented at the annual meetings of the Association for Family and Conciliation Courts.

Dr. Simon is currently working on two books – one on the unique aspects of second divorces and one on practical and pragmatic issues in co-parenting after the breakup of the family. He is also a highly regarded consultant, frequently called upon by other mental health care providers understand complex cases, make difficult differential diagnostic distinctions and develop comprehensive treatment plans.

Dr. Simon is the parent of two sons who are now 22 and 18 years of age. Being a parent is a central focus of Dr. Simon’s personal life and the source of infinite pleasure and growth.
