Divorce Attorneys Only Care About Making Money

Share Your Story: Were You Treated Unfairly by the Family Court System?

From Gibb

Did your attorney make mistakes during your divorce?

The attorneys do not look out for your best interest at all. Their sole purpose is to find any way possible to create an atmosphere where negotiations turn into war. Did my atty make mistakes--hah--he didn't file a witness list that included the accounting firm that valued my business and income.

Were you the victim of an unethical judge?

We have already spent $65K plus on this divorce and not even seen the judge. There has been every attempt possible by the attorneys to delay the divorce as long as possible and continue to bill and bill. They are only serving their best interests to steal as much money as they can.

They purposely file motions that they have no intention to go to. They pretend to read things that they charge for and clearly have absolutely no clue about your case. They work in tandem to ensure that they both make loads of money. Everything is designed to stall. My attorney didn't even show up to mediation.

What needs to change in the Family Court System?

There needs to be a shorter period to resolve. There needs to be a maximum that attorneys can charge. A wife should not have carte blanche with attorney fees if she is not working and it is assumed that the husband will have to pay.

If a settlement is less than the offer made by the husband previously the attorney(for wife) should not get paid or have to return fees. Attorneys should be scrutinized big time and be liable for malpractise if there is evidence of obvious delay.

Not enough room--I could go on forever.

Lessons Learned

  • Do absolutely everything in your power to resolve without attorneys--even if you think that you are paying too much. Pay it! The grief, aggravation, time, money, etc. with the court system and attorneys is beyond belief. I have demonstrated a minimum of 1/2 dozen blatant things that the attorneys did to prolong the divorce or create more billable hours.
  • Divorce attorneys DO NOT look out for your best interest. Even those you believe are fair and honest likely are not. They make money thru creating hours-period.
  • Keep all records to compare to their fees.
  • Stay one step ahead of them--educate yourself on the system.
