Did your attorney make mistakes during your divorce?
Yes, the attorneys on both sides tried to make the divorce last forever, and I am still not divorced after filing over 3 1/2 years ago in Bakersfield. I was only married to this man for a little over 2 years, and he abused my children and me throughout the marriage.
Were you the victim of an unethical judge?
Yes, one judge had ex parte conversations with counsel for my ex, and he did not bother to read my motions or briefs. Even though I had overwhelming evidence that my ex had abused me and my children. The judge only reduced the amount of spousal support by the amount I was paying my children's therapists.
What needs to change in the Family Court System?
There must be scheduling orders so that the lawyers can not make these cases last so long. The judges must be required to at least read motions and briefs and not to order spousal support to a man who can work and abused his wife and her children. When attorneys lie in court or in declarations filed in court, they should be disbarred.
Lessons Learned
- I learned not to trust any judge, court, or attorney in Bakersfield.
- I also learned to get away from abusive men as soon as possible and realize they do not have a conscience and will probably never change.
