Did your attorney make mistakes during your divorce?
I have spent close to $10,000 on a divorce attorney in the last 3 years. I feel that my attorney has done her best, yet, it seems having an attorney leads to "divorce settlements" that are on a piece of paper that never get followed
Were you the victim of an unethical judge?
I was once given an unethical judge. We were in the middle of a case with family services, and the kids were given to me for custody and taken from him who had temporary custody at the time. When the judge gave him his visits back, he also gave him custody back.
No apparent reason, but "reunification" were the kids given to him. Three months later, I had to go to another judge to get that changed. Now I am back to the judge that gave him custody, and now he sees he's crazy just as the other judges have seen.
What needs to change in the Family Court System?
Something needs to change to where they actually DO something to these people who are hurting our kids. My kids have been SEVERELY mentally abused by my ex husband, and alienated from me.
I have WRITTEN PROOF of all this, and the judge keeps on asking for us to come to a resolution ourselves between our lawyers. There has not been ONE contempt charge, in over 20 petition for contempt charges I have filed on my ex husband. All ranging from no child support, to bad mouthing me to my kids, to not returning my kids when he was supposed too.
Lessons Learned
- An attorney is not always the answer, it seems that every time I go into a "hearing" without an attorney, I get heard, and maybe even felt sorry for in the judges eyes.
- Document, document...make sure you document EVERYTHING, even though the judge didn't always hear everything I had to say, at least I had WRITTEN proof. I do everything I can for the court to be able to see the REAL truth.
- I have learned that my ex is a very good liar, can be very convincing, but that I can't live with myself "lying" so I'm be honest, whether I get what I want out of a hearing or not. At least I know I can sleep at night!
